GLEN ROSE — Joe McCoy, 71, passed away Friday, May 30, 2014, in Fort Worth.
Service: 1:30 p.m. Monday at Wiley Funeral Home in Glen Rose. Interment: Nancy Smith Cemetery. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Joe was born Jan. 1, 1943, in Stephenville to J.C. and Louise McCoy. He married Mary Jo Phillips, June 10, 1961, in Burleson. He had lived in Glen Rose most of his life. He enjoyed weight lifting and working out. He also made movies of weight lifting contests. He was preceded in death by his father.
Survivors: Wife, Mary Jo McCoy of Glen Rose; daughter, Melissa Schoesson and husband, Jesse, of Nemo; sons, Buddy McCoy and wife, Cindy, of Cleburne; Richard McCoy of Glen Rose, Jeffrey McCoy of Burleson; mother, Louise McCoy of Glen Rose; six grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; and a sister, Barbara Massey of Leonard, Okla.

I knew Joe from weightlifting meets here in Kansas. He was a great guy, and participated in many of our odd lifting meets here in Wichita, Kansas. Last saw Joe in 2000 in Savannah Georgia, where he was an official at the meet. It gave me great comfort to have an old friend there as I attempted my lifts. He will be missed.
