Joe Mitchell of Granbury, Texas, passed away quietly on the evening of Sunday, February 15th in hospice care in Glen Rose..
He lived a fascinating life both on and above the ground, flying jets for the United States Air Force when they were just rockets with wings, and working on computers when they were the size of your house. After more than ten years of service in the military, he joined American Airlines where he worked for thirty years as an international DC-10 Captain. In the meantime, he was an avid wood worker, and a music lover who taught himself to play jazz organ, while remaining devoted to his family.
Joe is survived by his wife of forty seven years, Jackie, his sister Margaret, brother-in-law Smitty, children Jolette, Michael, Michelle, and Jack, and five grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was eighty one years old.
Donations can be made in his name to the Pecan Plantation fire and emergency department in Granbury, Texas. Private services will be held.
