The life and times of Joel Jarvis Britt
(Cliff Notes Version)
Born in Hood County, Texas on January 30, 1932.
Went to Heaven in Johnson County, Texas on May 9, 2020.
He had been living in a nursing facility in Cleburne Texas, to be close to his bride of 65 years who was also living in the same facility.
He was born in Granbury Texas to his Father, Joel Obe Britt, and his Mother Roena {Judy} Ingram Britt.
He was the middle child between an older Brother Eugene Britt, and younger Sister, (Patty) Britt Holloway.
He lived with his parents in Thorp Springs until they both passed when he was fairly young. His father died in 1946 when he was 14. His mother died in 1958 when he was 26. He spent much of his childhood growing up with his semi adopted family, The Greens. They were all very close and helped care for him and were very close for many years.
He went to school and worked various jobs on farms and ranches to help support his family.
He met Ometa Ruth Marrs when they were both young. He was around 20 and she was 15. He told her when he met her that he was going to marry her. She just laughed.
On August 6 1952, He joined the Army. After boot camp he was sent to Korea. He made Corporal in 1954 and was honorably released from service on June 21 1954. After released from full duty, He served 8 years in reserve duty.
During his service he received a National Defense Service Medal, a UN Service Medal, a Korean Service medal, with 2 bronze service stars, a Presidential Unit Citation, and a Good Conduct Medal.
After returning home, he kept his promise to Ometa Marrs that he had made that he would marry her, and they were married on August 15 1954. They began their lives together and worked towards creating a family.
The first to be born was Darla Jo Britt who was born on October 31, 1956. Around that time, they moved to the Ft Worth area to provide better opportunities for the young family. He worked for the Highway department running a grader on highway construction and repair. He also worked at different times for his brother who owned a trucking company to deliver packaged goods.
The second child to be born was Steven Leslie Britt. He was born on June 1 1960 in Ft Worth, like his sister. Shortly after he was born, the family moved to South ft worth near Everman. Joel worked hard to support the family and was able to allow Ometa to stay at home and care for the children.
Joel started his career with Bell Helicopter in Ft Worth where he worked in production, in specific, he worked with Drills. He was able to work there until he retired after 20 plus years of service.
The third child was born on June 15, 1966. His name was Michael Wayne Britt. He too grew up and went to school in Everman. All 3 children went 12 years and graduated from Everman High school.
All during the time the children were growing up, both parents were very active in the development of their values and belief systems and very much helped nurture their education and developmental skills.
Joel was very athletic and spent much time playing softball, both fast pitch and slow pitch. He also was a very good bowler and was very competitive. He loved to fish and hunt and taught many of the young men in the family how to do outdoorsy stuff. He always had a calm demeanor and was a very good sport.
He loved the outdoors and loved spending time with the family when the time was available. They spent many vacations traveling to interesting places. They went to Carlsbad Caverns, and Corpus Christi Tx to name a few.
He loved his wife Ometa, and like many families there were always ups and downs but they stayed together and taught their children the value of Belief in God and spiritual happiness.
He was always loving and supportive of his wife and children and did his best to make sure they were not lacking in guidance, clothing, food, and a variety of activities in which to enjoy life.
He loved to fish and hunt and spent many holidays with the Family near the Brazos River as they were growing up.
After the educational years, the children grew up and started developing families of their own, but Joel and Ometa were not done with their supportive duties. They both helped to care for as needed and provide a loving and compassionate place for the grandchildren to come and visit when needed,
Joel was never one to shirk his duty to teach his children lessons in how to play ball, fish or any other activities they may have been interested in. Even as his children grew up and they began to live their own lives, he was very supportive in all of their goals and ambitions in life.
After their parental requirements were completed and they were ready to get to enjoy their golden years, they decided to move back into the country life so they moved to Comanche TX. After a few years of living a more secluded life, they decided to move back a little closer to the family. They moved to Weatherford TX for a couple of years but when their son Steve moved to Granbury, they decided to move back there to live. There they lived until they developed difficulty in living their day to day lives on their own. They moved back to Ft worth and lived in an elderly assisted living facility. When his wife Ometa started having medical issues and needed more assistance than he was able to give her, they both moved into a nursing home in Cleburne. With his health failing him as well, and his wife in a different part of the facility, he had good and bad days but the good days were mostly when he was able to see and spend time with Ometa and his family. His heart was weakening with his age and other health problems and during the night of May 9, 2020, while he was sleeping, Jesus called him home. He will be missed and loved by all of his family and friends.
Sweet Dreams Pa Pa, will see you soon. Miss you and love you Dad!!!!
