John Michael (Mike) Smith of Granbury, Texas passed away September 7, 2020 at the age of 68.
Funeral service will be at Martin’s Funeral Home Chapel, 100 S. Morgan St., Granbury, on Friday, September 11, 2020 at 2:00 pm. Visitation will be before the service from 1:00 to 2:00. Interment will be at The Holly Hills Cemetery, 1900 FM 51, Granbury.
Mike was born December 27, 1951 in Dallas, Texas to Elwin Clifford Smith and Hazel Jane Leming Smith. He is preceded in death by his parents and a granddaughter, Racheal Wiest. Mike is survived by his wife of 25 years, Patsy Jean Smith; his daughters Heather Thomas, Heidi Arrington, Holly Spinney and son Christopher Spinney. Also, his brother Jim Smith and wife Becky of Dallas; brother Pat Smith and wife Theresa of Abilene and sister Janie Smith of Athens.
Mike has ten grandchildren; JB Anderson and wife Damita, Robin Arrington and husband Aaron Griffin, (Racheal Wiest), Orion Kilburn, Ashton Jury, Jaden Thomas, Jackson Thomas, Leila Spinney, Cooper Gilcrest and Wolf Mayhem. He has four great grandchildren; Anneliessia Griffin, Issabella Griffin, Rhynnlie Griffin and John Daniel Anderson. He also has nieces and nephews and inlaws and their families.
Mike was a people person and it was often said that “He never met a stranger”. If he did, they were not a stranger for very long. He could strike up a conversation with just about anyone. He was usually known to his co-workers as “Smitty”. His occupation was Crane Operator. He worked for several years at Comance Peak. After that he worked for several companies around the metroplex putting up buildings, schools, churches and malls. His most recent employment was with Circle 8 Crane and Fluid Services working in the oil fields.
Mike will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
