Mario Muniz left a message on September 20, 2017:
My deepest sympathy to all the Smith family I first met John at East Bakersfield Post Office here in Bakersfield,Ca.He was our station manager for a short while and we became good friends as I was a Letter Carrier. We shared a few war stories about our experience in the Vietnam War.I had served in the Marines as a rifleman grunt 1968-69 and was also wounded three times.John had that Military Officer mentality that made him different from other Postal Service supervisors. Some people disliked him for his ways as a hard ass kind of guy I guess he brought his military ways with him to the Postal Service.John was good to me and treated me with nothing but respect with the hand shake and a great smile. We were both Vietnam survivors and had nothing but respect for each other.Again my sincere sympathy to all the John Smith family and may he rest in peace in heaven forever.Semper Fi Mario Muniz U.S.M.C.
