John Wayne Hampton, 81, died March 13, 2016 in the Dallas-Fort Worth area.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in Biggers Funeral Chapel. Interment with military honors will be at 2:30 p.m. in Perryman Cemetery in Forestburg.

John graduated from Texas A&M and was a USAF veteran, retiring as a Lt Colonel. He was a command pilot with 4900 hours in T-37, T-33, B-47, B-52 and T-39 aircraft. He was a veteran of combat flying in the Vietnam conflict, being awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross and numerous other medals and citations. After the Air Force, John worked at General Dynamics and the Fort Worth Boat Club.
He was a brilliant, kind and giving man who was loved by many.
John is survived by his wife of 60 years, Shirley; their children Susie and Rosser Bodycomb, Steve Hampton, and Shari and Don Garber; he also leaves behind grandchildren, Sara and Matthew Velasquez, Reed Garber and Jillian Garber; as well as three great grandsons, Aydan, Bryce and Casyn Velasquez.
