Johnny Edward Novey, 82, a wonderful man, husband, father, and grandfather, passed away Thursday, December 1, 2016, in Bedford.
A private committal service was held Wednesday, December 7, 2016, at Boyd Cemetery.
John was born January 24, 1934, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, to Ted and Opal Novey. He accepted Jesus as his Savior at an early age and joined the Baptist church. He was always active and involved in his church as a deacon, elder, choir member, and soloist. He received an athletic scholarship to University of Texas where he earned a bachelor’s degree in industrial engineering and lettered in track for four years. He was always an avid Longhorn fan. He retired from Bell Helicopter after serving 28 years in Industrial Engineering and Computer Systems.
John married Sandra Sue Harder on September 2, 1955, in Fort Worth where they were active in Oakhurst Presbyterian, First Presbyterian, and John Knox Presbyterian churches. They loved the mountains of Colorado and enjoyed spending time in the cabin they owned there.
“Big John” is survived by his wife, Sandra; son, David Novey and wife, Tracy, of Fort Worth; daughters, Janet Gay and husband, Robert, of Duncan, Oklahoma, Carol Rugowski and husband, Mike, of Paradise, and Karen Novey of Grand Prairie; his beloved granddaughter, Sydney of Paradise, who named him “PA”; sister, Barbara Wynn of Fort Worth; nieces, Renee and Michelle Wynn of North Richland Hills, and Kendra Riley of Arlington; nephews, Jesse Harder of Austin and Kevin Harder of Bingham, Massachusetts.
