Johnny was a talented Singer and Entertainer. I recall when I first heard him on the radio many years ago when he first started out and was amazed at his talent. He made a wise move changing directions to get into his flying career which he obviously loved. Sincere condolences to the family from a fan of his. R.I.P. Johnny.
Tommy and Wanda Tomlin left a message on May 21, 2016:
My husband Tommy and I were shocked and saddened to hear about the accident that took John's life. When John started working for the railroad, out of Cleburne, he and Tommy became friends. Their interest in flying made their friendship even stronger. The world lost a very special man when we lost John. Our heartfelt condolence goes out to all of you. He will be greatly missed.
Peace of mind is a call away. We’re here when you need us most.

I am so very sorry for you loss. After moving to Texas in Hill County some years ago, I enjoyed watching and photographing the crop dusters. He was an exceptionally talented man, and he will be greatly missed by many.

Will not pass the Chaf-In Cafe in Cleburne without thinking of the early morning breakfasts we spent visiting with You John before you would go to crops dust. You left a memory in our hearts of one of the most confident, patriotic, and talented men we've known and a true Cowboy. You left your mark on our hearts.

Kid and Mary Margaret Marley are my in-laws (I married Joe Marley). Mary Margaret thought of Johnny like a son. He sang "Red River Valley" and "When the Work's All Done" at Kid Marley's funeral in Justiceburg, Texas on the Miller Ranch. I also remember him singing "Amazing Grace" at the Justiceburg Baptist Church in 1980. What a voice! And what a friend!
