Charles (De La Rose ) Bunney left a message on December 14, 2019:
I had not heard from Mr. Howington or a few years (I was working oversea) and the the last time I knew he was in poor health. I first met both he and his wife through their daughter, Gayle. Both he and his wife were one of my lifelong friends and corresponded through out many years. He and his wife will be surly missed by many. I have fond memories of them in California. I hope they have met the little girl in heaven who hides beneath the Christmas tree. May God give them that wish.

I sometimes wondered what became of Mr. Howington. He was my band director during my two years at Traweek Junior High. I didn't like him much during the first year because I think he was new to the job and didn't command a lot of respect but by the second year he had grown to be an excellent band director. I really enjoyed playing my trumpet in his band. Over the next few years I occasionally ran into him and the encounters were always pleasant. The last time I saw him he had become the band director at Northview High School. I had graduated from Covina High by that time but was on the Northview campus to meet somebody and was pleasantly surprised to see him in his new position. We talked as if we had just seen each other the previous week. Aloha, Mr. Howington. It was good knowing you.

Mr. Howington was my band director at South Hills High School from 1974 to 1977. He was my favorite teacher, and the most important lesson I learned from him was to set big goals and work hard to achieve them. He took an impossibly ragged band and turned us into a team which wowed the fans at football games at halftime and won many of the parades we entered, and he performed this miraculous transformation in an amazingly short time. He loved his students and we loved him. Because of him, I now always use my head for something besides a damn hat rack!

Mr Howington was my music teacher at South Hills High. He was a wonderful man and he was adored by his students. He made us laugh everyday in class and I’m grateful for all the fun band trips we attended including Hawaii. Rest In Peace

To Dale and family of Wally. I'm a neighbor of his and got to know him for a short while. He was always appreciative of the small things done for the family. He was a gentle soul and now may he rest in peace with Mrs.
