GRANBURY — Katherine Jane McCray Thomas, “Mama Kat”, cherished wife, mother, grandma and friend, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2012. Kathy was surrounded by her loved ones at the time she entered peacefully into Heaven.
Funeral: 2:00 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 1, 2012, at Thorp Springs Church of Christ. Burial: Granbury Cemetery. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 30, 2012, at Wiley Funeral Home.
Memorials: If desired, contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, or for a more personal gift, offerings can be made to the family agape-love fund to benefit her niece’s medical needs that Kathy supported in life. Kathy was born May 24, 1939, in Aspermont, Texas, to Levi and Grace McCray. She graduated from Granbury High School in 1957. Kathy married her high school sweetheart, Billy Joe “Scooter” Thomas, and together thety shared 55 wonderful years together. Kathy was an LVN nurse and cared for patients for 25 years at Lake Granbury Medical Center and was also a long time member of Thorp Springs Church of Christ.
Kathy was a fun-loving, spirited woman who was much admired by all who knew her. She was hard working, devoted, creative, and had an amazing sense of humor. Her giving nature and willingness to help others was demonstrated throughout her life as was her faith and love of family.
Kathy was preceded in death by her parents, Levi and Grace McCray, sister, Evelyn Bingham, and brothers, James, Raymond, Hulen, Carlton, Charlie and Bobbie Jean McCray.
Survivors: Husband, Billy Joe “Scooter” Thomas; son, Derrell Thomas and wife, Linda, of Granbury; daughter, Kim Shafer and husband, Ron, of Big Spring; four grandchildren, Kristie and Trey Thomas, Callie and Andrew Shafer; sisters, Vivian White of Granbury, Nancy Lilly of Albuquerque, N.M., Ruby Sargent of Granbury; twin brother, Kenneth McCray and wife, Betty, of Keller; and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
