Lallie was born Oct. 5, 1906, in rural Wise County, the daughter of Lee and Clara Smith. Throughout most of her life, Lallie was a tireless worker in many organizations. She was a lifetime member of the PTA, an adult 4-H leader, Fire Department Auxiliary president, president of the Haslet Improvement and Development program, and was the Texas Conservation Homemaker of the Year 1970. For many years she was an election judge in Haslet. When she and her husband retired to Saginaw, she continued to be active in the Home Demonstration Club. She kept a beautiful yard and won “Yard of the Year.” In her later years she was a regular at the Saginaw Senior Citizen Log Cabin. She was a lifetime member of the Church of Christ.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 72 years, Elvis Richard “Pete” Lewis; sons, Elvis Ray and Douglas Lee Lewis; grandsons, Casey Lee and Dennis Mark Lewis; and a granddaughter, Keleen Lewis Hiller.
Lallie was a person with an indomitable spirit, one who met adversity with her chin held high, who shed her tears in private and always faced the world with a smile. She will be sorely missed.
Survivors include her daughter-in-law, LaVerne Lewis of Saginaw; grandchildren, Rayna Lewis of San Antonio, Delayne Hinojosa of Burleson, Neal Lewis of Haslet, Deborah Grube and husband, Richard, of Willow Park, Jeff Hiller and wife, Betsy, of Thorndale; five great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and many friends.
