On August 10th, 2015, at the age of 90, Laurin Crittenden, beloved wife of Clyde Crittenden and mother of Rosanna McLain and Lucinda Fields-Akins, went to be with the Lord. She is also survived by sons-in-law Roger McLain and Steve Akins, and by her grandchildren, Tracey Meyers, Bryan Fields and Rachel Akins; grandson Matt Allen preceded her in death. Laurin was born on June 10, 1925 in Dodd City, Texas to parents Dr. James Macon and Rosa McLaurin Donaldson. A private family graveside service was held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, August 13, 2015 in Bonham, TX.
She and Clyde met in 1948, fell in love and were married within 6 months. The attraction must have been strong given Laurin was a Baylor graduate and Clyde an Aggie. Indeed the attraction and commitment were strong; the two were married for 66 years and shared an adventurous life in various locations, including Coastal Venezuela.
With Clyde, Laurin spent 19 years performing volunteer work at Happy Hill Farm in Granbury, Texas, working with the children and using her education in communications to serve as liaison between Happy Hill and The Promise, the musical passion play about the life of Jesus performed in Glen Rose.
Although she loved life on this earth, Laurin always looked forward, with great anticipation to the time she would meet the Lord. Her eyes lit up every time she talked about Jesus, which was frequently. She knew with absolute certainty that her true home awaited. Her family now celebrates her life and remembers her feisty spirit, cleaver wit, and most of all, the way she embodied the unconditional love of Jesus Christ. She will be dearly missed.
