Dr. Lawrence Von LeBoeuf, 81, passed away peacefully at his home on Lake Granbury on Saturday evening, May 12, 2018, with his wife of 43 years at his side. Lawrence (Larry) LeBoeuf lived a long, meaningful, and adventurous life. As those who knew and loved him will tell you, this man was FUN, and even more than that, he was generous, compassionate, and kind.
Larry was born on December 28, 1936 in Mineral Wells, Texas, the only child of Luba and Ora Lee LeBoeuf of Glen Rose, Texas. He attended high school in Crane, Texas where he was Vice President of his class, competed in pole-vaulting at the state level, and was the Drum Major for the band. As the first to attend college in the family, Lawrence graduated with honors from The University of Texas at Austin, and went on to earn his Medical Degree at Southwestern Medical School in Dallas, Texas in 1964.
Lawrence married his high school sweetheart, Patricia Bonner, and together they had four beautiful children. After medical school, Dr. LeBoeuf was a Captain in the United States Air Force, serving as a flight surgeon during the Vietnam War.
Larry married Jeanna Dell Buchanan in 1975 in San Antonio, Texas. Throughout their life together, Lawrence was endlessly adventurous and fearless. He enjoyed being outside in nature in all its beauty. He especially loved the ocean and he spent as much time as he could aboard his WestSail 32, aptly named C’est La Vie. Larry took his family and friends on wild adventures—sailing across the Gulf of Mexico, traveling by train through Mexico, and sailing the Sea of Cortez, to name just a few. He also loved backcountry camping with family and friends, hiking, skiing, racing cars and sailboats, scuba diving, and mountain climbing. He was active his entire life, and competed in triathlons well into his 40s.
Dr. LeBoeuf practiced Emergency Medicine for 56 years—during which time he saved thousands of lives, and delivered hundreds of babies. He was an exceptional diagnostician, and was a kind and caring physician his entire adult life. His grandchildren loved to hear his tales from the emergency room, especially at the dinner table . . . much to their mothers’ chagrin. Larry was often spotted maneuvering the halls of the hospital on his Segway—an investment he made later in life in order to get to his patients with greater speed and efficiency. Dr. LeBoeuf freely helped countless people in need over the course of his life. He was more than happy to give his medical opinion and care to anyone who asked. He offered wise counsel to so many.
Larry was a joyful and enthusiastic musician—playing the guitar, harmonica, violin, piano, and all variety of percussion instruments. Larry never lost his trademark sense of humor, his deep faith, his grace, his generosity of spirit, or his joie de vivre. We will miss all of these things about him, and so much more.
Lawrence was an active member of the Lakewood Church in Houston, and the First United Methodist Church in Glen Rose. Lawrence was preceded in death by his parents: Luba LeBoeuf and Ora Lee LeBoeuf, his son: Lawrence Von LeBoeuf, Jr., and grandson: Samuel Joseph Zerangue. Lawrence is survived by his wife, Jeanna LeBoeuf, his children: Teresa LeBoeuf Roberts and husband Jim, Melissa LeBoeuf Tothero, Susan LeBoeuf Hashop and husband Rick, and grandchildren: Jestin Ray Hashop and wife Jessica, Timothy Lawrence Hashop and wife Holly, Anthony Shane Zerangue, Lauren Brooke Tothero, Sierra Paige Tothero, and Christopher George Geeker, three great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and many much-loved extended family and friends.
