Leliah Bertine Ives, 82, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 13, 2020 at Granbury Care Center in Granbury, TX. She was born in Sap Oak, TX on July 5th, 1937 to Charles W. and Glen Bridier. Leliah preferred using her unusual middle name Bertine, because she was named after her mother’s younger brother Bert, who had been killed in an auto accident.
Her father, who worked for Convair, moved his family to Tolar in the late 40’s. Bertine was a 1955 graduate of Tolar High School. Before graduating her and several of her graduating class applied for the job of telephone operator at Southwestern Bell Telephone Company, which she started after her 18th birthday.
Her first position was as a night telephone operator in downtown Granbury. After a short time, she was promoted and transferred to Directory Assistance in Fort Worth, TX where she worked many positions including supervisor. She was active in her Union and traveled extensively to various Union conferences for almost 44 years before retiring in 1999.
Before and after her retirement, she loved to go to estate sales, garage sales, and auctions. She enjoyed collecting coins, Depression glass, and antique furniture.
Bertine was preceded in death by parents Charles W. and Glen Bridier, brother Ted Bridier, and great niece Jade Bridier.
She is survived by her daughter Kelley Agee and husband John, and her son Jackie Ives. Her grandchildren Dallas Larson and husband Joseph, J.D. Agee, and Brodie Vaughn. Her great-grandchildren Taylor Vaughn, Graysen Bacon, and Holly Vaughn. Her brother Johnny and wife Lydia, and brother Charles and wife Carolyn. As well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Family, friends, and others whose lives Bertine touched are invited to Wiley Funeral Home on Monday, January 20th at 10:30am to reminisce, grieve, support each other, and of course, just chat.
