GRANBURY — Leonard Leroy Drury, 90, passed away Friday, Dec. 7, 2012 in Granbury.
Graveside service: 11:00 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 13, 2012, at Dallas – Fort Worth National Cemetery in Dallas. Honorary pallbearers will be Charlie Knapp, George Rains, David Rains, Charles Knapp, Jason Knapp and Tim Westbrook.
Mr. Drury was born Jan. 26, 1922 in Graham, Texas. He served honorably with the 1st and 12th Cavalry Division from 1940 to 1945 in New Guinea, Admiralty Islands, Leyete and Luzon Islands in the Phillipines. He was a Platoon Sergeant and leader of a light machine gun squadron, earning Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal with 4 bronze stars, Phillipine Liberation Medal with 2 bronze stars, Bronze Star GO 30 1st Cavalry Div., American Defense Service Medal, and Good Conduct Medal. After World War II, he enlisted in the Air Force serving in various locations until he retired in 1961. He worked for the U.S. Post Office for 20 years, retiring in 1981. He was preceded in death by his first wife and mother of his children, Willetta Dowdy Drury; daughter, Barbara Drury; and second wife, Ava Stembridge Drury.
Survivors: Wife, Mavis Jones Drury; son, Ronald Drury; daughter and son-in-law, Judy and Ron Norman; grandchildren and spouses, Kathy Frazier, Dobie Frazier, Charlie and Sonja Knapp, George Rains and Katrina Stanley, David and Kim Rains; 12 great-grandchildren; eight great great-grandchildren; brother, Robert Drury and wife, Dorothy; sisters, Maxine Lewis, Geraldine Mahon; special niece, Sue Petty; and many close nieces and nephews; extended loving family, Don and Mary Stembridge, Dewayne and Lois Stembridge, Jimmy and Lavenia Stembridge.
