GRANBURY — Lois Evelyn Moran was born at home in Millsap, Texas on July 30, 1915. She passed away peacefully at her home in Granbury, Texas on Sunday, August 12, 2012.
Visitation: 6 – 8 PM, Tuesday, August 14 at Martin’s Funeral Home in Granbury.
Funeral service: 11 AM Wednesday, Aug. 15, 2012 at First Christian Church in Granbury.
Lois was the oldest of two children born to Russell Aubrey Moran and Maude Cowan Moran, and was reared with her brother, Russell Aubrey (R.A.) Moran on the family ranch in Millsap. She attended school in Weatherford, Texas until she was fourteen and the family moved to Mineral Wells. In May 1933 she graduated from Mineral Wells High School. She married her high school sweetheart, William Robert Herrin, on December 24, 1933. They celebrated sixty-six years of marriage. Four sons were born to the couple; William Robert Herrin, Jr., Ray (1937 – 1938), James Opie Herrin and John Wayne Herrin (1946 – 1951).
Mrs. Herrin and her husband were partners in Herrin Motor Company in Stephenville, Texas from 1949 until 1978. They retired to their farm near Lipan where they enjoyed gardening, traveling and entertaining friends and family. In 1988 they moved to Mineral Wells. They never moved more than fifty miles from the place of their birth.
Lois was a fierce competitor and bridge player. She enjoyed playing games and was an avid footbal fan. She turned off the sound when watching televised football games so she would not be distracted from the plays. The Dallas Cowboys were “her team”!
Mrs. Herrin was predeceased by her husband, William Robert Herrin. She is survived by sons, William Robert Herrin, Jr. and his wife Lynn, and James O. Herrin and his wife, Ronda. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Kim Fulton and husband Bill Fulton, Scot Herrin and wife Nancy, and Suzette Tejada, and a multitude of great-grandchildren; sister-in-law Myrtle Lois Moran, nephew Scott Moran and niece Pat Tanner.
The family would like to thank Billie Moore, Maria Faulkner and Deb Adams for the wonderful care they gave to our Nana for the last year of her life.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Sturdivant Cemetery Fund, c/o Kenneth McMinn, 4260 Sartain Road, Mineral Wells, Texas 76077
