Lorene (Gasaway) Ator, 95 years old, passed peacefully in her home on Thursday, November 1, 2018. Lorene was born October 14, 1923 in Daisy, Oklahoma to BL and Maude (Warrick) Gasaway. Lorene was a child of the depression, one of six children. They had a dairy, raised chickens, a garden and canned the harvest. She went to school at Bald Hill then attended Liberty High School, graduating in 1941. She was a Rosie the Riveter at McDonnell Douglas from 1941 until the end of war in 1945. She worked in the modification department riveting one plane at a time. She then met the love of her life, Carl Ator, at the Church of Christ where they married and also had Carl’s funeral. She worked in the retail business until retiring.
Lorene gave comfort, guidance and dependability for each of her kids. She was their mom and they thank God He gave them such a wonderful person to raise them. Lorene loved to fish, crochet, knit and was a seamstress. She was a master gardener and canned all she could and was an avid sports fan. Being outside with her flowers was a joy also. She always said “if you don’t move it you lose it.” She would meet other ladies 6 days a week in the basement of the Okmulgee hospital and walk. Lorene was a generous, dependable, loving and forgiving person. She was a good person, a child of God and a faithful Christian.
Lorene was preceded in death by: her parents, BL and Maude Gasaway, her brothers; Levi and J.D. Gasaway and sisters; Letha Gasaway, Dollie Bradburn, and Helen Bowling and her husband Carl Ator. Lorene is survived by one son; Floyd Ator and one daughter Marion Tucker and husband Scott, sister-in-law; Alma and husband Don Payne, 7 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Celebration of Life Service 11:00 a.m. Monday, November 5, 2018 at the Church of Christ in Okmulgee, Oklahoma. Elder Ben Hamilton officiating.
Graveside service 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 6, 2018 at Evergreen Cemetery in Lipan, Texas. David Stobaugh officiating.
