Loyce Merle Tackitt, long time Granbury resident, Merle Tackitt passed away Saturday, January 8, 2022. He proudly served his country as a Marine in WWII, Korea and Vietnam for 23 years earning a Bronze Star for his service in Vietnam.
His life of service extended to his family and everyone who knew him. He never met a stranger.
After retiring from the Marine Corps, Merle was a successful horse feed salesman, and Arabian horse breeder. He settled in Hood County in the mid-eighties when he met Ann Gingles in her Real Estate office. They were married October 22, 1988. They built his A-frame cabin into a four-bedroom house to make room for many kids and grandkids and family reunions. He raised some longhorns and lots of okra and other garden staples which he shared with many in town. He was known for his brisket and peach cobbler which he brought to many functions in town. He didn’t really need an excuse. He loved to share. He attended Triple Cross Cowboy Church in Lipan. He will be missed by all.
Merle was born October 13th, 1930 in Knox County. He is survived by his wife Ann, by his children, Andrea Cupina of Ft Worth, TX, Neal Tackitt of Spartanburg, SC, and Brettt Tackitt of Granbury, TX. Jimmy, David and Steve Lively and Mile Moltz. Grandchildren – Michelle Doyle, April Estes, Rachel Cupina, Joey Cupina, Andrew Tackitt, Christopher Tackitt, Corey Tackitt, Casey Tackitt, Garran Tackitt, Jay Tackitt, Amanda Carey and five great grandchildren.
Memorial Services will be held at Wiley Funeral Home on Wednesday, January 12 at 3:00 p.m.
