Lucille A. Bohac Essler

Lucille A. Bohac Essler, 92, passed away Saturday, March 14, 2015, at her Haslet home.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church. Interment will be at 3:30 p.m. in Sacred Heart Cemetery in Wichita Falls. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, with a rosary beginning at 7 p.m., at Biggers Funeral Home.

Lucille was born November 17, 1922, in Megargel, one of eight children of the late Ignac J. Bohac and Amalie Mary Pastusek Bohac. She cared for children as a nanny after leaving home. On September 2, 1947, she and Robert L. Essler were married in Megargel at the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church.

Lucille worked for the Arlington school district for 17 years. She was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Wichita Falls until she moved to Arlington. She then attended St. Matthew’s in Arlington and now is a member of St. Thomas the Apostle in Fort Worth. She was a member of the Catholic Family Fraternal of Texas – K.J.Z.T. Society 0064 – Megargel since 1944.

She always talked about how hard it was as a child, working on the farm. She loved to play baseball, when she was young living at home. She was always asked to be one of the players with her brothers and father, while her older sister was helping in the kitchen. She could watch the Texas Rangers for hours. Baseball was the only sport that she watched and understood. She loved taking care of children. She would say she could “get down to their level.” Her grandchildren made her laugh, but she laughed even harder when her great-grandchildren were around.

Lucille was preceded in death by her baby infant son, Joseph Essler; her five brothers, Albert Bohac, Victor Bohac, Otmar Bohac, Frank Bohac, Joe Pat Bohac; and two sisters: Mary Bohac Marak and Lillian Bohac Kirby.

She is survived by her daughter, Barbara Essler Downes and her husband, Robert, of Haslet; her grandchildren, Amanda Lynn Downes Adams and her husband, Michael Derek Adams, of Grapevine and Brian Lawrence Downes and his wife, Amber L. Marlett Downes, of Watauga; and great-grandchildren, Bryony, Kolby, Drake, Jack and Jacob.
