FORT WORTH — Lynn Hise, 85, passed away Saturday, Sept. 27, 2014, in Fort Worth.
Funeral: 4:00 p.m. Thursday at Lakeside Baptist Church in Granbury. Visitation: 2 p.m. until service time Thursday at Lakeside Baptist Church. A second visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Friday at Nally-Pickle and Welch Funeral Home in Big Spring, Texas, with burial at 4:30 p.m. at Trinity Memorial Park in Big Spring.
Lynn was born Dec. 4, 1928, in Falfurrias, Texas, to Luther and Lockey Shuford Hise. He married Mary Nell Gates on June 1, 1951.
Lynn graduated from Falfurrias High School in 1947. He studied at Sul Ross State College from 1947-1951 and earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Music. He was the Assistant Band Director in Del Rio from 1951-1952; served in the U.S. Army from 1952-1954; Band Director at Van Horn High School, Van Horn, Texas, from 1954-1958 while earning his Master’s Degree in Education from Sul Ross State College; Band Director at Iraan High School in Iraan, Texas, from 1958-1962; Principal and 5th grade teacher at Sheffield Elementary School in Sheffield, Texas, from 1962-1965; Principal, Boydston Elementary School in Big Spring, Texas, from 1965-1966; Assistant Superintendent, Big Spring ISD, Big Spring, Texas 1966-1977; and Superintendent of Big Spring ISD from 1977-1987. Lynn had worked on his Ph.D. at the University of Colorado in Greeley, CO, and Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas.
Lynn served as President of the District 18 Texas State Teacher’s Association and was a member of the Big Spring Lions Club. He sang in his church choir and with a barber shop quartet. In 1985 he got his pilot’s license. He and Mary Nell had lived in Big Spring for 28 years, Marble Falls for 9 years and in Granbury for 9 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, son, Gary Luther Hise, brothers, Luther Judson Hise, Jr., Earl Evatt Hise and George Wesley Hise.
Survivors: Wife of 63 years, Mary Nell Hise of Fort Worth; sons, Ronnie Gates Hise and wife, Barbara, of Covington, Va., Cary Lynn Hise and wife, Kathy, of Hurst; sister, Martha Lockey Hise Flaming of New Braunfels; brother, Ross Edward Hise of Austin; grandchildren, Rachel Marie Hise, Adam McCutchan Hise; and several nieces and nephews.
