Maria Rachel Schmidt, 24, died May 31, 2017 at her home in Stephenville, Texas. A memorial service will be held at First United Methodist Church in Glen Rose, Texas at 10:00 am on Monday, June 5, 2017 with a reception to follow.
Maria was born February 15, 1993 in Beaumont, Texas to Paul and Lisa Schmidt. She moved to Glen Rose in 1997 and attended Glen Rose ISD where she graduated salutatorian of her class in 2011. She then attended classes at Colorado School of Mines in Golden, Colorado, where she was known fondly as “Moose” on the women’s rugby team. After moving to San Francisco, California, to live with her sister Erika, she returned to Texas in 2013 where she attended Hill College and Tarleton University. She was scheduled to graduate with a degree in accounting from Tarleton in December, 2017.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Lisa Schmidt of Glen Rose, as well as her uncle, Bill Schmidt of Lipan, and her grandparents, Albert and Ruby Schmidt of Granbury, Texas, James Parker of Harlingen, Texas and LaReva Kahle of Beaumont.
She is survived by her father and stepmother, Paul and Celeste Schmidt of Glen Rose, sister Erika Schmidt and her partner Alex Westfall of Glasgow, Scotland, stepbrothers Caden Schinagel and Casey Crews, stepsister Kaitlin Crews, and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins, including Jim and Ann Schmidt of Granbury.
She will be remembered for her bravery, her wit, her unending capacity to love, and above all, her kindness.
