I remember those evenings when Mark led our Bible Study group at Nyeri Baptist High School.. He invited us to his house where we shared the word of God and enjoyed chai and cookies which Cara made for the Bible Study members. After I graduated from High School I went to college... I was so happy to meet the Phillips again In Brackenhurst.... Cara and I had our own Bible Study once a week before I checked in to work... Their home was always open for everyone.. I didn´t get to see the Phillips after I left for Germany, but I treasure those memories, those smiles and the chai times... In a little while we will meet again. Peace be with you Cara and the family... Mungu awabariki sana, na awape Amani...

If we had space, we could write a book on memories of Mark. He was a true brother to our son who grew up with him in Machakos, Kenya as missionary kids. Mark was in and around our home very often as he and Bruce played, then when to the little local school in Machakos and finally went off to Rift Valley Academy where they spent those remaining years from about 5th grade up and through high school. We loved the Phillip family and spent a great deal of time in their home. We shared much mutual fellowship over the years and we will every hold Mark and Cara in our hearts for years to come. Our hearts and love go out to Cara and the family as they step into a new normal that only God can and will fill for them. Cara and family we deeply love you and pray for you.

I (Jon Casimir) met Mark in 1985. We were in a Bible study together at Kansas State University. Mark asked me to disciple him in October of 1985. Honestly, he should have been disciplining me. He was a good and faithful man. Toward the end of the spring semester we had an overnight fishing trip with several friends. I had been vaccinated for yellow fever earlier in the day. That night I awoke with a high fever and Mark drove me home at 2 am. The fishing trip was a bust but our friendship was golden. I will always remember Mark's infectious smile, kindness and love for Jesus. He was a man we should all aspire to be like. He will be missed. Can't wait to see him again in heaven.
