Marshall F. Holmes, 86, passed away Monday, April 1, 2013, in Fort Worth.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday in Biggers Funeral Chapel. Interment will be at Ash Creek Cemetery in Azle. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Memorial gifts may be made to The Azle Opry or Ash Creek Cemetery Association.
Mr. Holmes, a lifelong area resident, served in the United States Marine Corps in the Pacific theater during World War II. He was a businessman in Azle for many years. His love for country music led to the founding and operation of the Azle Opry which is now in its 50th year.
Marshall was a member of Azle Christian Church and served as president of Ash Creek Cemetery Association for many years.
Mr. Holmes was preceded in death by his parents, John and Laura Holmes; and brothers, Herbert, William and Kenneth Holmes.
He is survived by his wife, Vonnie Wright Holmes; daughters, Linda Wilson and Marsha Taylor; granddaughters, Christy Wilson, Kerri Walter and husband, Matt; great-grandchildren, Tristan Clemson and Elizabeth Walter; sisters-in-law, Kenneth’s wife Darlene and William’s wife, Darlene; and a number of nieces, nephews and extended family.
