SPRINGTOWN — Marvin E. Jones, 82, passed away Saturday, March 3, 2012, at his home.
Service: 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 6, 2012 at Hilltop Family Church, Springtown.
Burial: Springtown Cemetery.
Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Biggers Funeral Home.
Marvin was born May 17, 1929, in Grifton, Lenoir County, North Carolina, to Newman Jones and Janie Elizabeth Joyner. He was married to Patricia Ann Stone DeWoody on September 17, 1953.
He retired from the Air Force on July 31, 1971, after 27 years of service. After his military retirement he worked for a petroleum company and then for Elkins Hardware in Saginaw and Springtown Hardware in Springtown. His church family is Hilltop Family Church in Springtown, pastored by John Conway.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia, in 2001 and by his grandsons, Denzil Hunter Jones and Phillip Edward Saylor.
Survivors: His daughters, Ceretha Jean Landers and her husband, Mickey, and Rula Gail Willis; son, Denzil Duran Jones and his wife, Janet Elizabeth Metting Jones; grandchildren, Geoffrey Leon Wood, Gregory Alan Wood, Garrett Wayne Saylor, Elizabeth Faye Saylor, Stephani Michelle Jones, Samantha Carol Jones and Keely Jene’ Jones Thomas; great-grandchildren, Ashley Leigh-Ann Wood, Denzil Hunter Wood, Brent Hunter Saylor, Emily Alyssa Gilmore, Rachael Nicole Gilmore, Keenan Derran Jones-Thomas, Peyton Olivia Thomas, Kendrick Wade Thomas and soon to be born, Noah James Saylor.
