Mary Cathryn “Cathy” Quirk, 77, passed away Tuesday, September 11, 2012, in Fort Worth after a lengthy illness.
Service: 2 p.m. Saturday in Biggers Funeral Chapel. Interment: Greenwood Memorial Park. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Mary Cathryn was born October 13, 1934, in Dallas, to Helen and Noland Williams. She grew up in Big Spring and graduated from Big Spring High School in 1951, from Medical Arts Licensed Vocational Nurse School and earned her associate’s degree in nursing from Tarrant County Junior College in 1984.
She has worked at Harris, Northwest, Cook Children’s and John Peter Peter Smith hospitals until retirement in 1992.
“Cathy” was a wonderful cook and prepared many meals for friends and family. Welcoming many friends for holiday dinner and hosting holiday dinners for nurses who were away from their families was one her favorite things to do. She made lifelong friends and had a wonderful giving and generous spirit. She was outspoken and witty. You always knew what she was thinking because she never hesitated to tell you so. But it was one of her many endearing qualities that so many people loved her dearly for.
“Cathy” was married to Louis Quirk in Big Spring on July 18, 1969, and they lived happily together in Fort Worth for 44 years. She was lifetime member of The Rainbow Girls, Rodeo Historical Society, and a member and elder of John Knox Presbyterian Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Mary Helen Quirk; and her beloved pet companion, “Buffy.”
She is survived by: Her husband of 43 years, Louis; her twin sister, Carolyn Lucas Spence of Tomball, and sister, Linda Moore and husband, Ronnie, of Hamburg, Ark.; many nieces and nephews; extended family, Linda Callicott and husband, Dewayne, of North Richland Hills; and many dear, lifelong friends who will miss her dearly.
