She was a graduate of Rock Hill High and attended Limestone college until she married Lyn Thompson on JFK’s inauguration day, 1961. She then worked to support her husband’s education at Clemson University, and they settled in Rock Hill & Gaffney, SC, before following their hearts to enter ministry.
Mary Lou accepted Jesus Christ at a very young age and possessed unshakeable faith in God. She raised two children and introduced both her husband and children to Christ in the 1970s. She and Lyn moved their family to Tulsa and eventually Fort Worth in support of various ministries of the Gospel. She continued her work in ministry and finished out the remainder of her life as a prayer minister for her church.
Mary Lou was preceded in death by her husband, Lyndon R. Thompson and sister, Martha Kendrick.
She is survived by her sister, Dorothy Smith; children, Cheryl McClellan and Alton B Thompson; grandchildren, Matthew R. Thompson, Lynnley Drain, Erika Krehbiel and Megan J. Thompson. She also leaves behind a supportive, kind, and loving church family.
Mary Lou would strongly encourage anyone to get to know Christ as He anchored her and guided her through 80 years on this earth.
