MAX WAYNE DUFFEY went to see his savior on Thursday, October 22, 2020. He passed from this life at the Granbury Villa nursing home after being there only six months. Max was born in Sulphur Springs, Texas on July 27, 1939 to William Duffey and Luna Duffey.
He is survived by his wife of 26 years, Jeaneen Duffey. Also surviving Max are three children, Max Duffey, Jr. of Granbury, Monty (Cindy) Duffey of Italy, TX and Brooke Remigio of Fort Worth. Two brothers, Billy Ray (Norita) Duffey of Duncanville and Johnny (Cindy) Duffey of Cedar Hill. He leaves behind six grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
He is also survived by two step-daughters, Lisa (Rick) Medlin of San Antonio and Jana (Rodney) Tate of Bedford. Also, three step-grandchildren and 5 step-great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Max’s family moved from Sulphur Springs to Dallas in 1944. He attended grade school, junior high and Sunset High in Oak Cliff. Max started his career as an ironworker and later moved over to building prisons and jails throughout the United States and St. Thomas. He helped build a prison or jail in 48 of the states. He always had a unique tale to tell of something that happened at the prisons or with the orderly prisoners he was able to hire for help. He was not a talker but at times he would come out with a “winner.”
He enjoyed traveling with Jeaneen in their motor homes and fifth wheel throughout the years belonging to the DeCordova RV Club and lastly the Bluebonnet Travelers RV Club. In February when he could no longer climb up into the motor home, it was sold ending many fun times and participation with some great RV friends met over the years.
Max was invited to attend Triple Cross Cowboy Church by some friends in 2009. After the service he told Jeaneen that was a great service. He said, “I think I like that church can we join them?” Because of his traveling throughout the US, he never connected full time with a church until Triple Cross Cowboy Church. Visitation will be at Triple Cross at 1:00 with the memorial service beginning at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, October 30, 2020.
In lieu of flowers, remembrances can be made to Triple Cross Cowboy Church, Friends for Animals on Fall Creek Hwy in Granbury or Tunnel2Towers.org.
Under the direction of Wiley Funeral Home.
