Melvin Lee Ball

Melvin Lee Ball, loving husband, father and grandfather passed away to his heavenly home on Tuesday, July 28, 2020 surrounded by his family.

Graveside Service: 9:30 AM, Saturday, August 1, 2020 at the Ash Creek Cemetery.

Visitation: Friends may visit with the family on Friday, July 31, 2020 from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Biggers Funeral Home. Please note, the family will abide by COVI- 19 protocols for visitation and graveside service with masks and social distancing.

Memorial: In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Azle ISD Athletic Association (503-C).

Melvin was born November 13, 1945, in Fort Worth, Texas, to Charles Miller Ball and Lillian Naomi Garrett Ball.
Melvin spent most of his life in the oil and gasoline business. He started at a young age working in gas stations before the time of self-service. He spent much of his career as an Oil and Gas Distributor in the metroplex. In later years he worked hard to provide for his family in road construction building highways throughout North Texas. Prior to retiring he was a transport driver and safety trainer. He took pride in his work and wanted the men he trained to be successful in all they did.

Melvin enjoyed athletics and loved all sports! He was a huge sports fan! His motto was “Ball the Name Sports the Game!” Melvin attended TCU and had a special place in his heart for the TCU sports. He spent many years coaching youth sports in Azle. He was a natural born competitor and loved to see his legacy continue in the lives of his children and grandchildren. He was a loving grandfather “Pops” who regularly attended the grandchildren’s games and often offered up some coaching tips on how to improve their game! Not only did he love sports, but he was so proud of the other talents of his grandchildren always giving their best in music and theater!

Melvin was preceded in death by his parents Charles and Naomi Ball, brothers Arthur Ball and Delbert (Bud) Ball and son Melvin Wayne Ball.

Melvin is survived by loving wife of 46 years, Renee Ball, along with three children, Gina Ball Mitchell and husband Donald of Katy, Texas, Chriscia Ball Castro and husband Isaac, son, Barret Ball, and wife Jaime; seven grandchildren, Megan Carter and husband Jesse, Jayden Mitchell, Lyla Castro, Jonah Castro, Brayden Ball, Bryn Ball and Bennett Ball. Nephew Andrew Reed and niece Kendall Reed and many loving relatives and friends.

Melvin shared a smile and welcoming spirit with all. He never met a stranger and lived life with hope for a better tomorrow. He loved the outdoors and always had a goal to accomplish! We will miss his joy, laugher, humor and love!
