GRANBURY — Mike Hickey, 67, passed away on Thursday, February 25, 2016 at Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital in Fort Worth, Texas, after being involved in a very serious car accident on Wednesday, February 10, 2016.
Mike was born on February 13, 1949 in St. Louis, Missouri, to Francis and Eileen Hickey. After graduating from Westbury High School, Houston, Texas, Mike played varsity tennis for Texas A&M, where he graduated in 1971. Mike proudly served his country as a member of the United States Air Force, following his graduation as a Titan II Missile Launch Officer. After his discharge from the Air Force, he worked as a Tennis Pro and instructor at the Racquet Club of Memphis, in Memphis, Tennessee and was a 2 time Arkansas Open Tennis Champion.
Mike and his family moved to Wichita Falls, Texas, in 1978 as the tennis pro for the Wichita Falls Country Club. Mike purchased a tennis shop called “Different Strokes” and ran that business for 11 years. It became locally famous due to Mike’s different and unusual promotions. These promotions are what prompted Fox and CBS to seek Mike out for his unusual ideas in marketing and ultimately led to Ad One’s birth in 1994, after marrying Sylvia Willis McNatt. Granbury became their home in 2002, after opening Print One, founding the Granbury / Glen Rose Showcase Magazine and then adding the FASTSIGNS franchise in 2015.
Mike was a member and past board member of the Historic Granbury Merchant’s Association, past president of the Granbury Brigade and Granbury Bridal Circle, and a member of the Granbury Chamber of Commerce, the Hood & Somervell County A&M Club, the Granbury Opera Guild and the First Presbyterian Church. As owner of Ad One / Print One, FastSigns of Granbury and the Granbury / Glen Rose Showcase Magazine, Mike enjoyed working with local, hometown businesses and the community. Marketing and promotion was his passion, always believing that attention to smaller, growing businesses was a key to long term community growth and success.
