Nancy Rogers

Nancy Shaffer Rogers passed peacefully from her earthly home to her Heavenly home surrounded by loved ones on February 20th, 2019 at the age of 78.

Nancy was born in Wichita Falls, Texas on the 21st of December 1940, to Thomas Shaffer, Jr. and Rachel Brown Shaffer. She graduated from Wichita Falls High School in 1959 and attended Texas Tech University from 1959 –1960 where she was a member of Tri Delta sorority.

Settling in Granbury, Texas in 1976, Nancy discovered an intense love and passion for weaving and knitting, creating beautiful works of apparel and decorative arts.

With an adventurous spirit and at the age of 55, Nancy departed Granbury to pursue a new life…living in New York City. She became an active member of Trinity Episcopal Church on Wall Street, forming a prayer shawl ministry and volunteering her time to manage the welcome center. With generosity and enthusiasm, her door was always open to friends visiting the city.

Returning to Granbury in 2011, Nancy was diagnosed with dementia and Alzheimer’s. She continued to make new friends and remained spirited and full of positive light and energy. She never met a stranger and could find a connection within minutes. Nancy was thoughtful of others and unselfish in gift-giving. She loved, adored and was so extremely proud of her three daughters.

Nancy is survived by her children: Christie Collins of Granbury, Texas, Vickie Collins of Austin, Texas, and Sherri Strom and husband Chris of Export, Pennsylvania / sister: Martha Thompson and husband John of Duncanville, Texas / nephew: Mark Thompson and wife Svetlana of Frankfurt, Germany / loving companion kitty: Gracie of New Mexico, and many treasured, lifelong friends.

A Celebration of Life service will be held Saturday, May 11th at 11AM at First Christian Church in Granbury, Texas with Father Scott Blick officiating. A light fare reception will be held afterwards at the same location.

Nancy was lovingly and sacrificially cared for with dignity during her last years by the wonderful caregivers and nurses at Quail Park Retirement Center, as well as many family and friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Shriners Hospital for Children – Houston.
