Nancy Stewart Fernandes passed from this earthly life into eternity with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, August 31, 2014, in Fort Worth, Texas. Nancy was born in Shawnee, Oklahoma, to William “Bill” and Charlene Stewart on June 3, 1939. Nancy grew up in Shawnee, Oklahoma.
She spent the last twenty-four years married to the love of her life, Alfred Fernandes, and they resided in Granbury, Texas, in the Pecan Plantation area since 2004. Prior to their move to Texas, they resided in Edmond, Oklahoma, for many years and left long time dear friends and relationships there.
Nancy was an avid gardener, known throughout local garden clubs, as well as state and national garden societies. Her love of gardening and her showcase gardens brought tours and the attention of many visitors who came to visit and just experience the peacefulness of God’s beautiful creation. Nancy’s gardening was the culmination of a life of artistic creativity which she embraced early in life.
Her parents and daughter, Nancy Neale Ball, preceded her in death. She is survived by her husband, Alfred Fernandes, of Granbury, TX; her brother and sister-in-law, William and Donaleta Stewart, of Douglas, WY; her daughter and son-in-law, Jenny and Chris Manis, of Glen Rose, TX; her son and daughter-in-law, Jack and Kelly Neale, of Gainesville, FL; stepchildren, Dianne and Ron Rowe, of Virginia Beach, VA; Kim Wayne and Sharon Fernandes of La Porte, TX; Mitchell and Texye Fernandes, of Choctaw, OK; Steven Fernandes, of Oklahoma City, OK; grandchildren, Kandace and Josh Blowey, of Houston, TX; Krystal McKinney, of Keller, TX; Kittery and Artie Van Sciver of Matthews, North Carolina; McLeod Neale, of Gainesville, FL; Skyler and Keri Neale, of Springfield, MO; Breckley Neale of Gainesville, FL; Kristi Lantz, of Chesapeake, VA, Jeanine Montgomery, of Virginia Beach, VA; Jamie Cobb of La Porte, TX; Josh Fernandes, La Porte, TX; Anthony Fernandes, of Edmond, OK; and eleven great-grandchildren.
Nancy was an active member of Pecan Baptist Church in Granbury, TX, and had many, many beloved friends, church friends, neighbors and gardening friends.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on Friday, September 5, 2014, at 11:00 a.m. at the Pecan Plantation Country Club in Granbury, Texas.
