Ola Fay Denman Heflin passed away Saturday, December 5, 2020, at the age of 94.
Service: She will be memorialized by her son and daughter, Roy Leck Heflin and Rebecca Jane Heflin-Freeman and their families in a private graveside service at Greenwood Cemetery in Fort Worth on Saturday December 12, 2020.
She was a tireless and selfless part of life in Azle Texas for over 66 years. The youngest of four daughters born to Roy T. Denman and Susie Ola Harris Denman of Fort Worth in 1926, Olie graduated from Poly High School in 1938 and gained her degree in Business Administration from North Texas in 1948.
In 1945, Olie married Harry Frank Heflin of Denton, Texas and they moved to Azle in 1954. She remained faithful in marriage to Harry, a local Realtor, homebuilder, and community leader, for 59 years, until his death. Olie taught second grade at Eagle Heights Elementary for 15 years. She loved children and filled their hearts with imagination and love of God and country. She was a faithful encourager of all she met. Many of her students, now senior citizens themselves, still came to visit her, emailed her, and kept up with her on social media.
Many knew her from Harmony Hill, a Primitive Baptist singing school founded by her father in Azle in 1954. During the summer sessions, she was registrar, meal planner, cook, camping director, painter, plumber, but, most of all, a loving and patient teacher of acapella hymn singing.
Olie was devoted to her God and grew in grace through Him throughout her life. At the time of her death, she was a beloved member of The Abbey Church in Azle.
The family has published a Facebook page entitled “Memories of Olie Heflin,” and invites you to post your own recognition of her there. They have also requested that floral donations be limited to the close family and, in lieu, donations may be made to Pontis, Inc., Leck Heflin’s mission in Nicaragua, or to the Lakewood Methodist Church Chancel Choir, whose music she loved. Those honorariums may be made at the following links: https://pontisnicaragua.org and at http://mylakewoodchurch.org, or by mail to Pontis, Inc., PO Box 136368, Fort Worth, TX 76136 and Lakewood United Methodist Church, 2443 Abrams Road, Dallas, Texas 75214.
Survivors: She will be honored forever for her loving kindness by her children; five grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; 10 nieces and nephews, and the lives of hundreds who knew her as friend, teacher, mentor, and spiritual leader.
