Omar Welch Keeton, 90, went home to his Lord and Savior on Thursday, March 9, 2017 in Granbury, TX, following a brief illness. Gathering will be 10:30 am to 12:30 pm, Saturday, March 18, 2017 at Wiley Funeral Home. Private family services at DFW National Cemetery in the future. Omar was born April 22, 1926 in Hillsboro, TX. He proudly served his country during WWII, as a Sargeant in the Army Air Corp. He graduated with a Masters Degree from Baylor University, in Waco, TX. Omar loved his family beyond measure. His great story telling was legendary to all who knew him, and with his genuine smile and positive demeanor, Omar never met a stranger. He lived his life with great integrity, always mindful of setting a good example for both family and friends. Omar also brought the same credibility and dedication to his businesses, which included Coach and Educator, Owner of Keeton Sporting Goods (Arlington, TX) and, for the last 40+ years, custom homebuilder.
Just a few of Omar’s life enjoyments….. Texas UIL State Basketball Tournament attended since 1950. Camping, hunting and fishing with ‘his boys’. Watching Paul, Tim and John play basketball in their youth and continuing to watch all sports through his many grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents Leo Keeton and Robbie Lee (Welch) Keeton; and siblings, Doris, Hood, E.L., and Stanley.
Survivors: wife, Geneva Keeton; children, Kathy Magill (Patrick), Connie Keeton, Paul Keeton (Debbie), Tim Keeton (Kim), and (like a son) John Otto; grandchildren, Jennifer Zacharias, Chad Magill, Ryan Davie, Christine Lawless, Ashlea Stanton, Cole Keeton, Trent Keeton, Kacie Smith, Sara File, Clint Keeton, Kendall Keeton; 22 great-grandchildren; sister, Eulayne Ellis and sister in-law, Bettye DeCourcey; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
