Opal Irene Fair

Ninety-two years of fabulous is the only way to describe the life of Irene Fair. Born October 13, 1928 in Breckenridge, Texas, to Mabel and Hubert Scott, she was the eldest of their four children. Her family traveled extensively in her youth, and along the way, she developed a style all her own and always made the most of her abundance of natural beauty.

She met Floyd Fair, a handsome young WWII Air Force veteran in 1948. He proposed on their first date. and they were married September 19 of that year which began their lifetime of adventures together. Floyd was recalled by the Air Force in 1950 for Korea and they decided to remain in the service, traveling the United States with their children and their horses until his retirement in 1968. She dearly loved the horses, and could be found at Base Saddle Club cookouts, cowboy polo games, playdays and festivities from Montana to California to Texas. She took charge when Floyd’s duty in Korea, Morocco and Viet Nam took him away for extended periods of time, leaving her to be the one to shoot rattlesnakes, (or attempt to – you need to keep your eyes open when you pull the trigger, Mom), tow the horse trailer to playdays, or crawl under an ancient farm house after newborn puppies. She never passed up an antique store, hot dogs cooked over a campfire, a hike in the woods or a banana split. She was a wonderful artist, an accomplished seamstress, and an unbeatable Domino player who always seemed to know what Dominos you were holding. Always. It didn’t matter whether she was helping the kids catch grasshoppers for fishing or picking up pecans in the fall or having coffee around a campfire by the river- her hair was always fixed, her make-up was always on, and her earrings always matched her outfit. A lifelong wearer of bright colors, her closet was anything but dull.

Irene Fair was predeceased by her parents, Mabel and Hubert Scott, brother Ollie Scott, and husband of 54 years, Floyd Warren Fair. Survivors include daughters, Linda Fair Davenport (Jim) of Granbury, Trudy Fair of Weatherford, and Scott Fair (Staci) of Arizona, as well as grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren.
