Peggy Laverne Garrison, affectionately known as ‘Memaw,’ was born on August 7, 1936 in Paris, Texas to JT and Lillie Scott. She was the youngest of 4 sisters, Lillian Gray, Patsy Pomroy and Dorothy Briggs. Peggy attended and graduated from Paris High School and married her childhood sweetheart, Dwayne Garrison in 1953 shortly before he enlisted in the United States Air Force. They moved and were stationed in various parts of Texas, Virginia and Guam before finally settling in Fort Worth, Texas. They had five daughters Janet Bryant, Regina Williams, Rhonda Gribble, Terri Covey, Kelli Rumsey and one son Scott Garrison.
Peggy was a strong woman of faith, a devoted wife, dedicated mother and an absolutely amazing grandmother. She held various retail jobs over the years and spent a majority of her later working years as a sales associate at Dillard’s in Hurst. Her primary role and wholehearted passion was caring for and spending time with her family, and most especially cooking for her church, coworkers, friends and loved ones. She loved to travel and was known for her uncanny sense of humor, quick wit and we all know she wasn’t afraid to speak her mind. She was the life of the party at any gathering with her sisters and their families, or her Miss Daisy’s church group and at her family celebrations. A true matriarch of the family and life that she and her beloved husband and “Papaw” had built. Her legacy of love and devotion will be greatly missed but will continue to shine brightly through the many lives she touched.
Peggy was preceded in death by her husband and love of her life, Thielen Dwayne Garrison as well as all three of her sisters.
She is survived by her children and their spouses: Janet and Terry Bryant of Covington, Regina Williams of Springtown, Rhonda and Michael Gribble of Justin, Terri and Darrell Covey of Bedford, Kelli and Robert Rumsey of Springtown, Scott and Allyson Garrison of Coppell; 12 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; and many fond nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers include Trevor Peninger, Russell Farris, Shawn Merriman, Scot Clayton, Joe Viernes and Chase Payne
