Richard “Kelly” Thomason
The death of our Dad was at the Courtyards Assisted Living in Granbury, TX on September 27, 2021.
He had enjoyed a great breakfast and returned to his room. Later, around lunch, he was found in his recliner.
The “Joy” of dying is a blessing when one has been ill for many, many years. No more illness, no more insulin shots, no more meds. to experience.
Dad was born May 20, 1944, a beautiful, bouncing baby boy to Mrs. Willie B. (Conway) and Mr. Richard F. Thomason at Plattner Clinic in Grand Prairie, (at the cost of $48.00!). He was raised in Dallas, TX. He graduated in 1963 from Sunset High School in Dallas, TX.
Then after graduation, off to the Vanderburg Air Force Base in California. He proudly served in the U.S. Air Force. After the service, he went back home to begin his coast-to-coast driving career in his parents’ moving business, Arcadia Transfer Moving and Storage.
In 1970, he married the lovely, beautiful Christian Joy Lowin of Norfolk, Nebraska. Proverbs 31:12 “She will honor him…” The children began to arrive thereafter, Tammy, Robbin, Clay, and Van.
In 1975, they purchased the Arcadia Transfer Moving and Storage from his parents.
In the mid 1980’s he was employed with Humboldt Express Freight Company.
Later, he drove the Tennessee route in the Grand Western Star weekly.
The family moved to Granbury, TX in 1987. He was later employed by Old Dominion Freight Company until his retirement. He delivered freight and was also the designated Driver Trainer.
In 1998, he had quadruple by-pass surgery.
Kelly is survived by his lovely, beautiful, Christian wife of 48 years, Joy L. Thomason.
