Billie Sperry Watts left a message on August 23, 2017:
Richard came to George Peabody Elementary School in 7th grade, and all us girls had never seen anyone like him. We loved his long blonde hair (which didn't even cover his ears), his white pants, and the fact that he had a "band" sealed the deal. He used to make me laugh with his silly antics, and he always had a thing for cars, listening to the Daytona 500 during library. He once accidentally broke my little finger when he was acting goofy. We would go "steady" and break up - over and over. I would kiss a picture of him from 7th grade every night for about 3 years - and you could see my lip prints on it. I would write his name with one of those labeling guns every night and stick it on my lamp. However, in time, there was no more room on the lamp, so I would only "type" one letter a night, thinking somehow that if I did that, I was proving my loyalty. Funny. I hope his life was rich and full - and it looks like it was with all his children and grandchildren - and even one great-grandchild. How blessed he was. I'm so glad.

I attended Stockard Junior High School and Sunset High School with Richard. We both graduated in 1972, played sports, cut up in school and had lots of laughs and good times! I sure hate hearing he's passed away. My Prayers are with Richard and his family.

I've always loved you like a brother and I've never taken a breath on this earth without you in it. My cousin, my brother and mentor. Love you forever, until we meet again.
