Robert (Bob) S. Stroud died July 23 at a Fort Worth hospital of complications following heart surgery. Bob was born October 17, 1936 in Huntington, TX near Lufkin to Robert B. Stroud and Ruth Stewart Stroud. A Celebration of Life service will be held August 24 at Wiley Funeral Home at 11:00. The Rev. Dr. Don Kelley will officiate.
Bob graduated from Lufkin High School in 1955 after leading the Lufkin Panthers as quarterback to the 1954 Texas state semifinals. He attended the University of Texas, Texas Tech and graduated from Stephen F. Austin in Nacogdoches. After graduation he attended OTS in Montgomery, Alabama and was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the US Air Force. He served in Wiesbaden, Germany during the Vietnam War. After his discharge he worked at many different jobs in Texas and Florida to provide for his family including real estate and church business administration positions.
Bob remained an avid sports fan and rarely missed a golf tournament in person or later on television. His greatest loves were his family, loving friends, extended family and his pets. Bob was a gentle and self-effacing man who liked nothing better than sitting on the patio at his Pecan Plantation home where he could enjoy the company of his dog Queenie and the wildlife and natural beauty in the area. A lifelong Methodist, he was a member of Acton UMC.
He was predeceased by his parents, his sister, Charlene Williams, his grandson Jared Stroud, his stepson David Edwards and step granddaughter Catherine Edwards.
Surviving are his wife, Judy, his sons Randall (Liza), David (Laura) and grandchildren Justin (Emily), Savannah, Jacob, and Logan; mother of his children, Ann Stroud; his great-granddaughter Harper who was born just seven days after his death. Also surviving are stepson Blake Edwards; step grandchildren Zoe Edwards, Katie and Rory O’Connor, Christine Moskalik and Cooper Martin; and step great-grandchildren Bradley Martellaro and Julia Moskalik; nieces Bobbye Records, Dianne Phillips and nephew Paul Williams. He also leaves a large and loving extended family.
