Robert Edward Bennett, age 81, the son of John Bennett, Sr. and Mildred Mullins Bennett, died Sunday, November 16, 2014 at Frank M. Tejeda Texas State Veterans Home after a battle with severe dementia.
Robert is survived by his brother, John Bennett, Jr., sister-in-law, Elizabeth Carter Bennett; niece, Melinda Bennett Eason and husband, Dennis Eason. He also leaves behind six grand nieces and nephews, Connie Dove, Donna Holveck, Wendy McNichols, Tammy Eason, Eric Isbell and Richard Eason; fifteen great grand nieces and nephews; twelve great, great grand nieces and nephews.
Robert was born in Corrigan, Texas, and attended Pasadena Public Schools. He served 20+ years in the U.S. Marine Corp and retired as Gunnery Sergeant. He served during the Korean and Vietnam Wars, and received Commendations for his dedication and bravery. The discipline and patriotism he learned in the Marines never left him, as friends and family will attest. Robert earned his Bachelors from Appalachian State University in North Caroline. He worked for Halliburton and Brown & Root as a Journeyman electrician for many years. Robert has been a long-time resident of Granbury, life member of the Masons, 38 year membership with the Shriners, and long-time member of the First United Methodist Church Granbury.
