Roger Lynn Murphey, 65, passed away Monday, July 15, 2013, in Azle.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in Sipe Springs Cemetery in Comanche County. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Biggers Funeral Home in Lake Worth.
Memorial gifts may be made to the American Cancer Society or to The Wounded Warrior Program.
Mr. Murphey, a lifelong area resident, graduated from Polytechnic High School in 1966. He served in the United States Army from 1969 to 1971, including service in Vietnam. He served in the United States Army Reserve from 1977 until retirement in 1998 when he retired at the rank of sergeant first class, a special agent with CID.
His career in law enforcement continued with the Fort Worth Police Department in 1972 and continued until retirement in 1999. His time with FWPD included service as a patrol officer, Badge #5, Vice Unit, Tactical Squad, and hostage negotiator. He also served with the Tarrant County Sheriff Department from 2007 to 2012 as a bailiff and probation officer until he retired due to medical reasons.
Roger was preceded in death by his parents, John and Bessie Murphey, and his close friend, W.C. “Mac” McCowen.
He is survived by his wife, Patsy; sons, Bryan Morris and companion, Lisa Monzingo, Brad Murphey and wife, Rebecca; daughters, Lei Holder and husband, Ed, Robyn King, and Amy Murphey; siblings, John Murphey and wife, Kathy, Molly Lomax and husband, Don; grandchildren, Jeana Jones and husband, Joe, Gerad Morris and wife, Stormey, Caitlyn Murphey and fiance, Danny Westfall, Austun Carmichael and fiancee, Chelsey Allen, Timothy Murphey and wife, Reagon, Elizabeth Murphey, Matt Higgins and wife, Emily, Ashley Morris, Jacob Murphey, Kena Carmichael, Noah Murphey and Joey Murphey; great-grandchildren, Levi Higgins, Skylar Read, Colby Jones, Delaney Murphey, Evelyn Westfall, Christopher Morris and Henry Higgins; and a number of nieces, nephews and friends.
