Rosalie Ann Johnson

Rosalie Ann Johnson, 83, a loving wife, mother, grandmother, teacher, and friend, went to be with her beloved Lord and Savior on November 24th, 2021, in Thousand Oaks, Calif. She lived a joy-filled life, spreading the Gospel to everyone she met. Christ alone was her life, her mind, her goal, and her peace.

She was born Rosalie Ann Schmitz on June 21st, 1938, in Schenectady, N.Y. Some of Rosalie’s fondest childhood memories include ice skating on the lake in the winter with her best friend Linny, playing with her favorite dog Lassie, and enjoying her mother’s homemade apple strudel. She also developed many talents that she used throughout her life to glorify God, becoming a skillful seamstress, tennis player, choir singer, painter, and pianist.

Rosalie graduated from the College of William and Mary with a Bachelor of Education in 1960. In college, she held the leadership role of secretary in her sorority, Chi Omega. After graduating, Rosalie began teaching 3rd grade in Roanoke, VA. She also spent time as a secretary at General Electric (GE), where she met her husband-to-be, Kenneth Arthur Johnson. They married on Feb 22nd, 1963, and had three wonderful children: Kevin Arthur, Karen Ann, and Kimberly Rose. Rosalie spent her time supporting her husband and family, serving in ministry, and tutoring children in need.

Faith was the most important part of Rosalie’s life, evidenced by her deep care for others, avid prayer journaling, and relentless study of God’s Word. She led by example, praying over her family every day. She also shepherded hundreds of women as a Bible teacher through her churches and her involvement in Kay Arthur’s Precept Ministries, the Gideons, and Community Bible Study Fellowship. Rosalie had the opportunity to step into many Christian leadership roles based on her natural teaching and public speaking gifts. The Lord used her life mightily to bring others to the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ.

Rosalie was a member at several churches, including Grace Presbyterian Church in Peoria, Ill., and Lakeside Baptist Church in Granbury, Texas. She and her husband co-led marriage workshops, Bible studies and co-taught the Agape Sunday School class at Lakeside for many years. Rosalie never shied away from sharing God’s love with others, one of her favorite verses was Galatians 2:20.

An inspiration of faith, Rosalie leaves behind a legacy of God’s love for future generations. Rosalie was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth; parents, Anton, and Rosa Schmitz; and grandson, Luke Ian Armstrong.

She is survived by her brother, Robert Schmitz of Albany, N.Y., and her three children and their spouses: son, Kevin Johnson, and daughter-in-law Valerie of Fort Worth, Texas; daughter, Karen and son-in-law Ian Armstrong, MD, of Westlake Village, Calif.; daughter, Kimberly and son-in-law Paul Steinman of Houston, Texas. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren: Allen and (Leah) Johnson, Bonnie Johnson, Grace and (Blake) Bryan, Keith and (Caitlyn) Johnson, Joshua Armstrong, Shelby and (Samuel) Altum, Jacob Steinman, Nathaniel Armstrong, Rebecca Steinman, Ava Steinman, Olivia Johnson and 2 great grandchildren: Kinsley Lemmons and Kyle Johnson.
