“Pop” was a hero to me, in many ways. His faithful service to our country, his valor, the way he loved his precious wife, the beautiful family he raised. His big heart, his humor, what a legacy he has left. My life is richer from having known and loved this man, truly a fine example of “the greatest generation.” Grateful to Jim & Faye & Meleah for accepting me as an extension of the family. My prayers are with “Mom”.

I did not know Roy Bertelmann but he had a profound effect on my career. Roy retired from our organization as an electronic specialist in 1968 and I enlisted as an electronic specialist in 1969. By that time, Roy and others like him had established a level of organizational excellence and dedication to mission unmatched in the young US Air Force. I strived to maintain that commitment and carry his legacy for the next 45 years. Thank-you, Roy. Rest in peace.
Amber Miller left a message on March 25, 2021:
I cared for Roy and his wife Velma while they resided at Legacy Oaks of Azle and being from Hawaii I used to greet them every morning with “Aloha Kakahiaka” and he would always bear the biggest smile known to man and would then follow with “aloha kakahiaka to you” May he Rest In Peace. No worries Roy I’ll make sure Velma gets the proper care she deserves. Aloha Oe to an amazing man!
