Roy “Cowboy Roy ” Calvin Alexander

Roy Calvin Alexander, beloved husband, father, and grandfather passed away on Tuesday, June 21, 2022, at the age of 71. A memorial service to honor Roy will be held at 11:00 on Thursday, June 30, at Wiley Funeral Home in Granbury, TX.

Roy was born June 27, 1950, in Olney, TX, to Vivian Christine McCullough Waits and Andrew Calvin “Dago” Alexander. Roy went to school in Coleman, TX, and entered the army in March of 1970, where he served in Vietnam in the 534th transportation company until December 1971.

Following the military, Roy joined his father and worked in the oil rig/trucking industry for 20 years. He then moved to the metroplex and started his career at Commercial Metals in Fort Worth, TX, where he worked for 18 years before retiring. During that time he also met and married his best friend, Becky Alexander.

If you knew Roy, you know that retirement couldn’t hold him down! He quickly realized he needed something to do with his idle time and started working for Granbury ISD driving a school bus, which brought him so much joy. One of his riders even wrote him a song called “Cowboy Roy.”

Most of the time, you could find Roy with Becky “Bede” hanging out on their back porch, grilling, listening to music, and drinking a cold “red beer”. He loved to tend to his garden, take care of Bede’s flowers, spend time with his dog, Remi, and watch old western shows and PBR. If you ran into Roy on a night out, he would spin you around the dance floor, kick your butt in a game of pool, and tell you a joke so funny you’d fall off your barstool. He was always the life of the party. But during the last decade of his life, Roy’s pride and joy were his grandkids. He was their biggest fan and spent countless Saturdays cheering them on from the sidelines of their many sporting endeavors.

Roy is survived by his wife, Becky Alexander of Granbury, TX; his children, Cole Rutherford and wife Chrystal of Granbury, TX, Christina Wyatt and husband Chase of Round Rock, TX, Leigh Ann Qualia and husband Michael of Del Rio, TX, Tera Robison and husband Coby of Coleman, TX; and sister Nancy Helms and husband Ed “Cotton” Sultemeier of Gouldbusk, TX. Grandkids- Blaine and Nixon Rutherford, Addison and Tristan Wyatt, Paige Qualia, Kash Wood, and Owen Robison. Numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Preceded in death by his father, Andrew Calvin “Dago” Alexander, Mother, Vivian Christine McCullough Waits, and Sister, Vicky Diann Phillips.
