Roy Stanford went home to be with the Lord on September 11, 2019 in Granbury, Texas at the age of 90.
Roy is survived by his son, Danny (JoAnn) Stanford of Granbury, Texas; daughters Charlotte (Greg) Allen of Hurst, Texas; and Sandye (James) Stemmer of Lakeland, Florida. Roy was blessed to be a grandfather to Amber, Tiffany, Nicholas, Erika, Brianna & Zack, as well as 16 great-grandchildren. He is further survived by a brother, Harold (Ivy) Stanford of Ivanhoe, Texas; sisters Betty Sommers of Maypearl, Texas; Ruth Jones of Azle, Texas; and Vera (Charles) Alphin of Burleson, Texas. He is preceded in death by his wife, Syble, his parents, George Stanford & Bessie Tidwell, his brothers, Lloyd Stanford, Joe Stanford & Clifford Stanford; and his sisters Yvonne Giddins, and Nell Hilburn.
Roy was born on November 1, 1928 in Verdon, Oklahoma to George & Bessie Stanford. He attended school in Boyd, Texas. Roy joined the Army in October of 1950 and married Syble Wynn on December 23, 1950. Roy served in the Army for two years. In 1955 the couple purchased their first home in Fort Worth, Texas where they raised three children, Danny, Charlotte & Sandye. Roy worked for Swift & Company for a number of years and retired in 1994 after working 25 years for the Miller Brewing Company. Roy and Syble built and moved to their retirement home in Granbury, Texas.
Roy and Syble enjoyed traveling together with their family and friends. Roy was an avid fisherman and enjoyed working in the yard. He was an active member of Waples Baptist Church.
A funeral is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. at Waples Baptist Church, 1200 Temple Hall Highway in Granbury, with the burial service to follow at Mount Olivet Cemetery in Fort Worth. Lindsay Luedeker will officiate the ceremony. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Roy’s life.
