Rupert “Rip” Dowling, 70, passed away Sunday, January 12, 2014, in Haslet, surrounded by his family.
Mr. Dowling requested there be no service.
Rip was born in Durham, North Carolina, to the late Master Sgt. Frederick J. and Jane Parker Dowling, and was very proud of his Irish heritage. He had resided in Arlington for 45 years.
Mr. Dowling worked for Industrial Catering for 25 years before going into business for himself, and after retirement, he was a beloved school crossing guard for the city of Arlington. He was active within the Arlington community, and always had a friendly smile and funny story for anyone he befriended. Rip was a shining light in the lives of his friends and family members and will be dearly missed.
He is survived by his wife of 41 wonderful years, Valerie Dian; his children, Michelle Hill and husband, Jayson, of Haslet, and Erin Nicholle Kennedy of Dallas; grandchildren, Parker and Connor Hill and Deven Kennedy, who were his pride and joy. Rip was anxiously awaiting the birth of his first granddaughter, Kaitlyn Hill, who will be born to Michelle and Jayson in April. Along with his immediate family, Rip is survived by many cousins and friends.
May the road rise to meet you. May the wind be always at your back. May the sunshine warm your face. The rain fall soft upon your fields. And until we meet again, may God hold you in the palm of His hand. Amen. An Irish Blessing.
