Born to Clifford and Lena Boone, she grew up in Thurber, Texas and was a proud graduate of Strawn High School in a graduating class of five. Sherry trusted her Lord as a young girl and became a member of Mingus Baptist Church. On November 10, 1955, she married Vernon Arnhold Stuard and enjoyed 53 years of marriage, until Vernon’s passing in August 2008.
Sherry found joy in caring for her husband and children, living in Lake Worth, Texas, for most of her married life. Upon Vernon’s retirement, the couple traveled extensively, including multiple cruises to Hawaii, Alaska and the Caribbean, and road trips to a majority of these United States. She loved their trips to the Texas coast. More even than these treasured trips, Sherry enjoyed her time with family and extended family. For Sherry, it seemed the more folks in a gathering, the better. She enjoyed genealogy and was a great story teller of family history. She knew all the extended family and loved them all. These gatherings were an excuse for her to cook, and her vinegar pie was fabulous. Most of all, Sherry loved to laugh, and anyone who knew her recognized and loved that laugh. She was widely known as Sherry, Mom and Granny, but the title she held most dear was Granny!
Sherry was preceded in death by her parents, Clifford and Lena Faye Boone, as well as her husband, Vernon, and brother-in-law, Jim Maddux.
Survivors: She is survived by her son, Gary and Kelli Stuard; daughter, Sharon and James Lemons; son, Roger Stuard and Jeness McCormick; grandchildren are Richard Lemons, Craig Stuard, Jason Lemons, Susan Wheless and Justin Lemons; Sherry’s siblings are Bill Boone, Frances Maddux and Bob Boone, as well as Vernon’s brother, Ernie and wife, Jean Stuard.
The family extends their thanks for the care of Sherry to both Brookdale Sr. Living and Vitas Hospice.
