Sue and Melton were married Nov. 23, 1949 and enjoyed a wonderful life together for 68 plus years. Their first home was in Eastland, TX where they resided before moving to Fort Worth in 1952. Sue introduced Melton to square dancing (against his will) in the fall of 1949. However, at her insistence, they joined a class and Melton was so enthused, he became a square dance caller. Sue then assumed the role of square dance caller’s wife and later his partner in teaching both square and round dancing in a career that lasted until her failing health prevented her from continuing. As part of the square dance activity, they were privileged to enjoy many square dance vacations to all parts the United States and became a part of family of dancers and friends throughout the states and several other countries.
Throughout her high school days, Sue was an outstanding athlete in both volleyball and basketball. In later years, her love for sports was evident by her encouragement of her three boys to participate in sports from an early age. As a loving mother and avid fan, her love for sports was further evident by her pride in her three sons’ careers that included baseball, basketball, track and football, from Little League through college. Later in life as a grandma, she again became a pride and loyal fan following her grandsons’ careers in sports. Sue was very proud of her only granddaughter, Lindsey throughout her high school drill team and dancing years and also the woman and mother she has become.
An outstanding organizer, Sue was a gracious host in her home for many annual parties, including New Year’s Eve, New Year’s Day, Super Bowl, July 4th, Labor Day and an evening of food and Christmas caroling. For over 30 years, Sue and Melton hosted many weekend parties at their Lake Weatherford house.
Sue and Melton are long time members of the Western Hills United Methodist Church and she particularly loved the Sunday service and rarely missed being in her favorite pew.
Sue was preceded in death by her parents, John and Nellie Caraway; brothers, Hobert and Ofer Caraway; and son, Johnny Joe Luttrell.
Survivors: Husband, Melton Lee Luttrell; sons, Mike Luttrell and wife, Barbie and Mark Luttrell; grandchildren, Johnny Joe Luttrell, Jr. and wife, Bianca, Lindsey Eisenmenger and husband, Duane and Tyler Luttrell and fiance’, Katy; step-grandsons, Chad Drennan and wife, Kristi and Mike Drennan and wife, Lauren; and ten great grandchildren.
Services will be under the direction of Wiley Funeral Home.
