GRANBURY — Sylvia Conditt, 96, of Granbury passed away Monday, Feb. 27, 2012, in Granbury.
Service: 11 a.m. Friday at Wiley Funeral Home, Granbury. Interment: 2 p.m. in Shannon Rose Hill Memorial Park, Fort Worth. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Sylvia was born in Denison, where she graduated from high school at the age of 15. After graduating, she attended Dallas Methodist Hospital School of Nursing and graduated in 1935. She returned home and worked as a registered nurse at Long Sneed Hospital until her marriage to John D. Conditt in 1940. During her 47-year career, she was employed at Harris Methodist Hospital in Fort Worth for eight years before going to the soon-to-be-opened Arlington Memorial Hospital. After helping with the organization and opening of the hospital, she became the first director of nurses and retired after 20 years of service in that position. The Sylvia Conditt Excellence of Care Award is given to a selected employee every two years.
John and Sylvia lived and raised their children in Fort Worth before retiring to Granbury. She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Granbury, Hood County Hospital Auxiliary and the Senior Circle.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John D. Conditt, and sister, Ethel Hutto of Tennessee.
Survived: Children, Sally Conditt Hancock and John W. Conditt; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
