Teresa Lynn Brooks Van Deventer, 56, a loving mother, daughter, sister and friend, went to be with our Lord on Sunday, December 28, 2014. Teresa passed as a result of complications from a brain aneurysm. Her final moments were spent surrounded by her loving family.
A celebration of her life will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Biggers Funeral Home. Tod Williams will officiate. Burial will be in Azleland Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday prior to the service. Pallbearers will be Dale Brooks, Joseph Van Deventer, Jason Dunn, Tim Ward, Jim Ubinger and Daniel Duke. A reception will be held at the home of Brenda and Tim Ward following the service.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Grapevine Fire Department.
Teresa was born December 30, 1957, to James and Faye Duke Brooks of Bedford. She graduated from L.D. Bell High School in 1976 and later studied cosmetology. Teresa was a member of the Citizens Fire Academy of Grapevine, where she enjoyed giving of her time and support. Teresa’s joy for life and family was contagious. Her smile lifted a room and her humor brought laughter. She was a devoted mother and a selfless friend. If someone needed help, no matter the time of day, Teresa would be there with a sympathetic ear, an encouraging word, and a shoulder to lean on.
Teresa was preceded in death by her father, James W. Brooks; and her grandparents, Collin and Jenetta Duke.

Teresa leaves behind her former husband, John Van Deventer; son, Joseph Van Deventer and wife, Elisha; daughter, Amy Van Deventer; mother, Faye Brooks; brother, Dale Brooks and wife, Margie; sister, Brenda Ward and husband, Tim; numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.
