Tom Christian Schnell of Fort Worth, much-loved husband, father and grandfather (“Opa”), took Jesus’ hand Wednesday, April 2, 2014. He was 79 years old. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Lighthouse Fellowship. Inurnment will be at 3:15 p.m. at Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery, Lane B. Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Lighthouse Fellowship.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Tom’s name to Lighthouse Fellowship, 7200 Robertson Road, Fort Worth, Texas 76179 or to the American Heart Association.Mr. Schnell was born in Wapakoneta, Ohio, on March 12, 1935, to Bob and Deloris Schnell. After graduating from Ohio State University, he joined the Air Force and served for 20 years, achieving the rank of lieutenant colonel. After retirement he worked for 10 years with General Dynamics/Lockheed Martin.He was married to his devoted wife, Joy Lynn, for 55 years, and they raised one son, Thomas Robert, and three daughters, Kimberly, Cheri and Jeanette. Family and friends were inspired by Mr. Schnell’s calm, unflappable demeanor, strong work ethic, love for his country, and sly sense of humor. He remained a strong supporter of the Ohio State Buckeyes. Go Bucks!He is survived by his loving wife, Joy Lynn; children and their spouses; six grandchildren; brother, Ted and wife; nephew; niece; two grand-nieces; and two grand-nephews.
